        AURA QUARTZ CRYSTALS

We've all seen them for sale in crystal shops,  metaphysical stores and online.  But what exactly are "aura" quartz crystals?  They have a shimmering iridescence and metallic rainbow sheen in interesting colors and can be quite intriguing.  

These begin as clear quartz crystals and with modern technology, a mist of atoms of precious metals are bonded to the crystal's surface by a process called atomic vapor deposition (AVD) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD).  This creates a permanent bond of the precious metal to the clear quartz crystal and creates a unique iridescent metallic appearance.  Crystals are placed into a vacuum chamber and heated to over 800°C at which point a vapor of precious metal(s) is added which then coats the crystal and its atoms bond to the surface.  Metals most often used are gold, silver, platinum, titanium, iron, magnesium, and nickel.

Many believe that the combination of clear quartz with these metals creates a "new" energy and intensifies that found in natural clear quartz.  Differing metals create different colors and certain metaphysical attributes have been given to these aura quartz colors. Each colour has its own set of magick properties alongside its coating of precious metal. Some say that because of this it creates a completely different vibratory energy than the clear quartz alone which emanates from the different colors created to stimulate the relevant chakra associated with the color of the aura quartz.  The metals intensify the effect of the clear quartz while adding an extra oomph of energy by virtue of the color created and the metal(s) used to create it.

Many healers say the unusual colors created by this method emit new sets of energies to expand consciousness and heal the physical and spiritual bodies and even raise the vibration of the original clear quartz.  It's said that aura quartz posses unique energies which come from the combination of clear quartz with gold, silver, platinum, and titanium.  This bonding technique creates an extremely thin layer of color over the clear quartz so be careful not to chip these unique man-made creations.  When chipped you can see the underlying clear quartz.

So, let's have a look at different kinds of aura quartz and what attributes they have.

Aqua Aura Quartz  is clear quartz with a coating of gold.  It is light blue which connects us to our higher self, allowing us to speak honestly with clarity of mind.  It removes insecurities and aids in communication and empowerment.

Titanium (Rainbow) Aura is quartz with a gold and titanium coating.  Some call this the "stone of Universal Light" indicating that these aura quartz crystals activate, balance and cleanse all the chakras, as well as amplify energy, enhance creativity and psychic endeavors.  It brings a positive outlook and vibrant energy into our lives.  Rainbow Aura quartz is said to be a master healer for any dis-ease.

Angel Aura quartz which is also called Opal Aura or Unicorn Aura quartz.   It is a quartz crystal with a coating of silver and platinum.  People indicate this type of aura quartz crystal has a calming effect and brings inner peace and confidence, bolstering our intuitions.

Rose Aura quartz has a platinum coating which creates a raspberry metallic sheen.  This is said to emit the vibration of unconditional love and help you understand your spiritual purpose, clearing the mind by deflecting any negative energies. It is uplifting and gentle and helps with questions of self-worth.  It guides us to unconditional love of Self.  

Amethyst Aura (Lavender Aura) quartz is one that is coated with a combination of platinum, magnesium and silver.  These iridescent purple crystals can give feelings of wholeness, happiness and joy.  It is said that they channel nature spirits and attract fairies.

Champagne Aura crystals are pale gold in color by virtue of being coated in gold and iron.  These crystals can act as a purifier by removing blockages and allowing inner vibrations to become calm.  It's said these aura crystals can stop negative thinking and protect against unwanted energy.

Tangerine Aura (Sun Aura) quartz has a coating of gold and iron oxide on it.  It's vibrant orange can awaken the brow chakra and heal symptoms of trauma or shock.

Tanzine Aura (Indigo Aura) quartz is coated with gold, indium and niobium.  Its tanzanite-like color deepens your abilities of perception and clarifies your intuition.  It's great for psychics.

Apple Aura has a coating of nickel and gold giving it a pale yellow/green appearance.  This is said to give you a positive outlook and stabilize emotions, while promoting mental endurance.  

Flame Aura quartz has titanium and niobium bonded to clear quartz, creating deep blue, violet and gold colors. This is used in spiritual initiations and rituals, helps in meditation by creating a multi-dimensional energy shift.  It stimulates the brow chakra thus enhancing focus and psychic energies.

Opal Aura quartz is clear quartz with a platinum coating.  It has a pearl-like sheen and iridescence.  It cleanses the aura and stimulates all chakras.  It's a crystal of joy, hope and optimism.  It helps with meditation, romance, and love.   It's beneficial in healing hurt and trauma as well.

Sunshine Aura quartz is bonded with gold and platinum and is bright yellow.  It is an active energy crystal, stimulating and cleansing the solar plexus chakra.  Disappointment, trauma and old hurts are overcome using this crystal.  It initiates the entire chakra system with health and energy.  It is expansive and protective in nature.

These are not all the aura quartz, new combinations of metals are found yearly to create new colors for these man-made crystals and "new" attributes will be ascribed to them.

I have my own strong opinion but wanted to present these man-made creations to you so you can understand what they are and ponder the effects of these crystals.  Do you feel new combinations create new energies?  Have you felt a difference in frequency between an aura quartz and a natural clear quartz?  If so, how would you describe it?  More broadly, how do you feel about manipulating natural energy and then trademarking it; creating a new name and ascribing new healing energies to the creation?  One thing is for sure. You will never ever see these quartz colors in nature.  

I'll leave it up to you since in the end we must follow our intuition and the vibrations we feel from the crystals and stones we work with.

                    Crystals and stones helpful for Samhain 

                                        (Halloween for non-Wiccans)

When looking for crystals or stones remember to select the right tool for the job.  Just as you’d look in your toolbox for the proper screwdriver or wrench, when you search in your crystal toolbox, keep in mind the occasion and your intent while selecting crystals and stones to mediate with, decorate your altar, do spellwork, or sleep with for the night.

On Samhain, the Wiccan New Year, we sense the barrier between the seen and unseen is very thin and it’s possible to traverse between the two.  You may  have spirit visitors during this time or you may wish to venture safely into other worlds and seek.  As the Wheel of the Year turns, and we can’t do anything about that, know that the barrier between worlds is never as thin as it is at Samhain.  If you have a special project that needs tending at this time of year, these are among the crystals and stones I recommend you have at your disposal.

 

Silver Sheen Obsidian

 

Obsidian is volcanic glass, not a crystal.  Several forms and colours of obsidian are available.  You can find the most common black obsidian, rainbow obsidian, gold sheen obsidian, and even blue obsidian.  For Samhain, silver sheen obsidian is remarkable.  The silver sheen is reminiscent of the Goddess silver moon energies shining upon us all.  Obsidian in general has long been associated with magickal workings like scrying, but obsidian also absorbs negative energies and can keep you grounded as you gaze into the silver and make use of its energies.

Smokey Quartz

Smokey Quartz is a crystal of silicon dioxide that has been exposed to radiation to give it a brown colour.  Smokeys come in all shades of brown, some are so dark they look black.  On the one hand by their colour they represent the unknown world, they are gateways to the mystical.  On the other hand no other dark crystal holds as much Light as a smokey.  It is both mysterious and friendly.   This form of quartz crystal is known for absorbing any negative energies and helps with meditation and grounding: actions which are very powerful at Samhain.

Labradorite/Spectrolite

Labradorite (and its twin stone Spectrolite) are iridescent feldspars which in the right light show a rainbow of colours.  This amazing stone stimulates the brow chakra and highlights intuition and psychic talent and divination.  This is an especially helpful stone to work with during Samhain rituals. 

Rainbow Moonstone

Like labradorite, rainbow moonstone targets the brow chakra and enhances imagination, creativity and psychic awareness of All That Is.  While labradorite is the “heavier” stone, rainbow moonstone lifts us to unite with the energies of the mystical moon.  When seeking a psychic boost at Samhain, rainbow moonstone is a must.

Clear Quartz

Clear quartz acts like an energy turbine.  It increases the vibrational attributes of any and all stones and crystals near it.  Clear quartz opens the flow to your higher purpose and is used to expand psychic abilities, clairvoyance, protection and communication; all activities to pursue on Samhain night. 

Black Tourmaline

As the energies of Samhain surround you and you experience a shifting of time and experience when the veil between the worlds is so thin, black tourmaline keep you grounded in your physical body.  It opens the feet chakras to integrate all you experience within yourself at the close of any meditation or ritual.  Black tourmaline is the best grounding stone around so make use of it as much as you can.

Hi Everyone, I've received a request to discuss what crystals and stones help during Mercury retrograde time.  Three times a year, the planet Mercury appears to travel backward across the sky from its normal orbit.  It's not really moving backwards, but since it's orbit is much faster than Earth's the two orbits are not in sync and it just looks as if the planet of communication is moving backward.  In astrology, these retrograde times are when to expect issues with communication and technology.  Think of undelivered bills, spam emails, typos in resumes, technology issues, and messed up travel plans.

During these times of the year, try to remain flexible, patient and understanding.  Allow extra time for travel and avoid signing new contracts.  Double and triple check your emails and stay on top of travel plans.  Review any projects and plans at this time but wait til Mercury is direct to make final decisions.  Plan ahead, have back-up plans and be ready for people's frustration and miscommunication.

But don't get too stressed; life cannot stop just because a planet appears to be moving backward in the sky.  There are crystals and stones to aid us in the stressful, frustrating and plain old annoying times of Mercury retrograde with its quirks.

FLUORITE

FLUORITE fights the electromagnetic waves coming from phones, computers and other electric equipment.  It stabilizes these energies that may be getting influenced by the planet of communication.  FLUORITE specifically 'fluffs' our aura as well, keeping it sealed, clear and close to the body. Remember that SHUNGITE and SMOKEY QUARTZ are also excellent choices for protecting and clearing the EMF vibrations which may be affected by Mercury.  

SODALITE

SODALITE is one of the communication stones, vibrating to the frequency of the throat chakra.  Since communication seems to get mixed up during retrograde periods, SODALITE helps you find your voice and helps you say clearly what you mean.  BLUE TOPAZ and AQUAMARINE are also excellent choices for clarity in verbal communications.

Our great friend CITRINE is back.  If things are just never working out during a Mercury-retrograde period, remember that it's only temporary.  CITRINE brings us a warm friend feeling and helps us remember we can manifest anything, including a calm demeanor and stress-free experience.  CITRINE boosts your mood and motivation and rebalance when things get rocky.  As we learned earlier blogs, SUNSTONE can lift your mood as well.

BLACK TOURMALINE

If things are going a bit whacky for you, grab onto BLACK TOURMALINE.  It's grounding energies are made for Mercury-retrograde periods.  If you're feeling vulnerable and unsafe (remember that driving during retrograde periods is a little more dangerous as well) then the protective nature of BLACK TOURMALINE will do wonders.  HEMATITE is also a great stone for grounding.  

Mercury retrograde periods are temporary; we've all lived through them before without even knowing what was happening.  Now that we're integrating crystals and stones into our daily life, we can be prepared for any turmoil Mercury wants to turn up.  Forewarned is forearmed as they say.  Remember that this too shall pass.

Hint: those born during Mercury retrograde seem to have a much better time and are hardly affected.  Check to see if you were born during a Mercury retrograde or Mercury direct period.

The ideal protection is to be certain to have more Light energy in you and radiating from you and your sacred space.  However, there may be times when crystals and stones can add a protective vibration as well. You may have a "difficult" co-worker to deal with every day or you may be in an environment that is hostile or you're just in a mood where you feel a little vulnerable.  No problem, we've got you covered with the following crystals and stones.

 AMBER

        The Meaning of the Pentagram

            and Its Associated Stones

Many people associate the pentagram with witches and the occult.  The truth is so much simpler.  Here is the secret: the pentagram represents the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, bound together by the fifth element of spirit.  That's it.

Imagine the Great Pyramid in Egypt.  It's base has four points aligned to the four directions and at the top is a fifth point, which to the Egyptians represented the Sun.  

Now take that three-dimensional pyramid and make it two-dimensional.  Voila.  You have the pentagram.  Four lower points to represent the directions and a top point to represent Spirit.

Each point on the pentagram represents a cardinal direction, and each direction has corresponding stones. 

For example, Earth is North and usually represented by green or black stones.  Earth is about stability, protection, growth, centering, and strength.  Associated stones would be Black Tourmaline, Green Calcite, Jet, Emerald, Dipside, Black Onyx, Moss Agate, Chrysocolla, or Petrified Wood.  All these stones carry the Earth vibration.  If you are in need of the Earth energies, carry one or more of these stones.  They work well together or separately.

Air energies usually inherent in yellow crystals and stones, or stones that are iridescent.  East is the direction of air, of the rising sun and the energies of inspiration.  New ideas and possibilities and expansion of awareness are all embodied in Air energy.  Stones that correspond to East energies include Yellow Sapphire, Citrine, Yellow Calcite, Gold Tiger Eye, Opal, and Yellow Fluorite.  

Fire is associated with the South and stones that are red.  Fire energies are considered active elements (as opposed to the steadiness of Earth).  Fire creates and destroys, it purifies and cleanses, it makes room for transformation and that which is new.  Carnelian, Red Calcite, Ruby, Fire Agate, Hematite, Sardonyx, Sulfur, and Red Spinel are all considered fire stones.  These can help in times of when an energy increase or strong protection is needed.  They signify passion, romance, courage and brute force.  

Water energies are of the West and usually signified by blue stones and crystals.  West is the home of emotions; it is the fundamental force behind cleansing and healing.  Make room in your life for water stones when you need emotional balance, detoxification, purification, divination, lucid dreaming, and expanded psychic intuition.  Stones in this category include Aquamarine, Blue Topaz, Azurite, Celestite, Lapis Lazuli, Sapphire, Moonstone, Pearl, Sodalite, and Lepidolite.  

The top point of the pentagram represents Spirit: it is the binding power that keeps all other elements together and is associated with white or clear crystals and stones.  This fifth element is transcendent...holding past/parallel memories, ritual and meditation energies to connect with the Universal Consciousness.  Crystals and stones associated with Spirit are Clear Quartz, Danburite, Phenacite, Moldavite, and White Topaz.

Hopefully the pentagram doesn't seem so mysterious now.

Crystals for Full Moon

Best stones to work with full moon energies.

Hi everyone,

The full moon is a time of completion and contemplation.  It's the apex of the lunar cycle when you may want to meditate on gratitude for all that's manifest from your new moon work, or bathe in the cleansing and energy-infusing energies of Luna.  The full moon adds tremendous energy and power to all you do, so be aware that if you get a little anxious or plain old cranky during full moons, you may want to carry a piece of black tourmaline with you to keep you grounded during this powerful time.

These are my four go-to stones for working with full moon energies.  Whether they are in a grid on my altar or in my pocket, they harness beneficial moon energy.

First, there is SELENITE (also known as satin spar).  

It's named after the Selene, Greek Goddess of the Moon.  It's iridescent sheen looks like crystalized moonlight itself.  Selenite is used for deep cleansing and it fills you with Light, raises your vibrational frequency, harnesses Goddess energies and allows us to communicate with our higher selves most easily.  

Second on the list is MOONSTONE.

It's no surprise that moonstone is excellent to work with during new and full moons. (I prefer black moonstone for new moons.)  It is a lunar energy stone that anchors moon energy, balances emotions, stimulates dreaming, and invites the Divine Feminine to bathe you in her cleansing energies and protection.  This is a high-powered stone so take your time in finding just the right piece that vibrates with your particular energy.

Third is LABRADORITE

As we've written before, labradorite is a mysterious stone, aiding us to tap into the magick of the full moon.  If you have any rituals planned, labradorite is a must.  Like selenite and moonstone, labradorite has that iridescent quality, filled with lunar energy.  Remember that labradorite is very protective as well, so if you need additional grounding when working with full moon energy, make this a g0-to stone.

Next, I recommend OPAL

The moon has vibrational connections to the element of water, controlling our emotional nature and opal does as well.  Opal aligns our higher self to the moon and allows us to use Her energies.  It enhances the water energies so it's about purification and cleansing (remember Selenite?).  Like labradorite, opals display a range of colours which stimulate our brow chakra and lead our imagination on journeys led by full moon energies.  Allow yourself go use opal to connect with the mysterious energies of the full moon and you'll be amply rewarded.

And finally, have a CLEAR QUARTZ CRYSTAL on hand.

Clear quartz amplifies the energies of all its surroundings and centralizes and coordinates the vibrations of all other stones.  If you make a grid with the above stones, a clear quartz crystal would be an excellent center stone.  This is your power stone.  Use it wisely.

                        NEW  MOON

The new moon is all about cleansing, concentrating and putting manifestation magick to work.  In the darkness of the new moon, energies gather where anything is possible.  Cleanse your space and reflect on that for which you are grateful, allow your energies to flow with the possibilities the new moon has in store.  You are the creator.  Within the darkness all is possible.  Go within, release all that has accumulated since the last new moon, and identify that which you wish to manifest during the coming moon cycle.  

SMOKEY QUARTZ will assist you in releasing pent up negative energies, accumulated or generated, and give you a clear mind when identifying that which you can release and that which you wish to manifest.

BLACK OBSIDIAN allows you to enter the darkness of your shadow self.  It can assist you in identifying that which you can let go to facilitate the manifestation of that which you wish to manifest.   Always use black obsidian with caution.  If you have depressive tendencies, black obsidian may draw you deeper into depression.

An easier, gentler stone to use may be BLACK MOONSTONE which is already connected with lunar energies and is an emotional-body stone.  It will assist you in releasing any emotions or attachments which have not served you well and allow you to let go and move forward.

CITRINE with its happy yellow colour is the go-to manifestation crystal.  It's warm colour stimulates the solar plexus chakra, the seat of  manifestation.  Once you feel clear, centered and are fully concentrating on that which you wish to manifest, gaze into the citrine, programming it with your intentions for the new moon cycle.  Allow images in your mind and words in your heart to transfer into the citrine crystal, then allow the crystal to broadcast your intentions to the Universe.
