The ideal protection is to be certain to have more Light energy in you and radiating from you and your sacred space.  However, there may be times when crystals and stones can add a protective vibration as well. You may have a "difficult" co-worker to deal with every day or you may be in an environment that is hostile or you're just in a mood where you feel a little vulnerable.  No problem, we've got you covered with the following crystals and stones.

 AMBER

Amber has always been known as a highly protective stone against any type of negativity.  If you sense something amiss in the air or your psychic frequencies detect something odd, amber is especially helpful if the negativity comes from psychic sources.  Its golden warm rays give a sense of courage that all will be well.  Amber will surround you with an energetic shield, making you feel safe with its strong earth frequencies.

AMETHYST

Our friend amethyst makes another appearance here as a protection crystal.  The purple of the amethyst opens the crown chakra and can help rid the mind of negative thoughts.  Amethyst's high frequency cleanses the aura of any negative energy or attachments and like amber creates a protective shield of light around the body, protecting the wearer and environment from any type of harm.

Opal makes a visit again to the blog.  Apart from its other vibrations, opal is known as a stone of protection acting as a defensive shield which protects from negative energies and thoughts from others.  Opals protect against danger and are empowering for removing ourselves from situations where malevolent frequencies may do us harm.   Opals are have very sensitive vibrations.

BLACK TOURMALINE

Black tourmaline makes another appearance as well.  Black tourmaline is one of the best crystals to protect yourself from negative energy.  It helps put a vibrational boundary between yourself and others, so that you don’t pick up other people’s energy.  Black tourmaline maintains that boundary. that boundary.

HEMATITE

Hematite is one of the strongest stones for energetic protection.  It is a root chakra stone, which helps you stay grounded. Hematite creates a protective shield around your aura.  Since it is highly-reflective when polished, it acts as a mirror, reflecting any negative energy directed toward you back to the sender. Shiny reflective hematite is a great stone to put near any entrance to your living space.

PYRITE

Smokey quartz makes an appearance here as well as a stone of protection. Smokey quartz will help you notice potential danger in your area just as it filters out negative energies that can lead to danger.  With its uncanny ability to absorb and dissolve negative frequencies, smokey quartz leaves you feeling very well protected indeed.  

BLACK JADE

Jade comes in all colors, even black.  Black jade acts as a barrier against physical harm and is known to be a 'guardian stone' that is highly protective and energetically helps to prevent intrusion by negative frequencies.  Its protective energies prevent psychic attacks.  Its also is known to give safety and protection from physical harm when travelling to places that are unfamiliar to you.  Black jade transforms negative feelings of any type, assisting you to release sorrow, guilt, anger, envy, or fear into neutral vibrations, similar to smokey quartz.

        The Meaning of the Pentagram

            and Its Associated Stones

Many people associate the pentagram with witches and the occult.  The truth is so much simpler.  Here is the secret: the pentagram represents the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, bound together by the fifth element of spirit.  That's it.

Imagine the Great Pyramid in Egypt.  It's base has four points aligned to the four directions and at the top is a fifth point, which to the Egyptians represented the Sun.  

Now take that three-dimensional pyramid and make it two-dimensional.  Voila.  You have the pentagram.  Four lower points to represent the directions and a top point to represent Spirit.

Each point on the pentagram represents a cardinal direction, and each direction has corresponding stones. 

For example, Earth is North and usually represented by green or black stones.  Earth is about stability, protection, growth, centering, and strength.  Associated stones would be Black Tourmaline, Green Calcite, Jet, Emerald, Dipside, Black Onyx, Moss Agate, Chrysocolla, or Petrified Wood.  All these stones carry the Earth vibration.  If you are in need of the Earth energies, carry one or more of these stones.  They work well together or separately.

Air energies usually inherent in yellow crystals and stones, or stones that are iridescent.  East is the direction of air, of the rising sun and the energies of inspiration.  New ideas and possibilities and expansion of awareness are all embodied in Air energy.  Stones that correspond to East energies include Yellow Sapphire, Citrine, Yellow Calcite, Gold Tiger Eye, Opal, and Yellow Fluorite.  

Fire is associated with the South and stones that are red.  Fire energies are considered active elements (as opposed to the steadiness of Earth).  Fire creates and destroys, it purifies and cleanses, it makes room for transformation and that which is new.  Carnelian, Red Calcite, Ruby, Fire Agate, Hematite, Sardonyx, Sulfur, and Red Spinel are all considered fire stones.  These can help in times of when an energy increase or strong protection is needed.  They signify passion, romance, courage and brute force.  

Water energies are of the West and usually signified by blue stones and crystals.  West is the home of emotions; it is the fundamental force behind cleansing and healing.  Make room in your life for water stones when you need emotional balance, detoxification, purification, divination, lucid dreaming, and expanded psychic intuition.  Stones in this category include Aquamarine, Blue Topaz, Azurite, Celestite, Lapis Lazuli, Sapphire, Moonstone, Pearl, Sodalite, and Lepidolite.  

The top point of the pentagram represents Spirit: it is the binding power that keeps all other elements together and is associated with white or clear crystals and stones.  This fifth element is transcendent...holding past/parallel memories, ritual and meditation energies to connect with the Universal Consciousness.  Crystals and stones associated with Spirit are Clear Quartz, Danburite, Phenacite, Moldavite, and White Topaz.

Hopefully the pentagram doesn't seem so mysterious now.

Best stones to work with full moon energies.

Hi everyone,

The full moon is a time of completion and contemplation.  It's the apex of the lunar cycle when you may want to meditate on gratitude for all that's manifest from your new moon work, or bathe in the cleansing and energy-infusing energies of Luna.  The full moon adds tremendous energy and power to all you do, so be aware that if you get a little anxious or plain old cranky during full moons, you may want to carry a piece of black tourmaline with you to keep you grounded during this powerful time.

These are my four go-to stones for working with full moon energies.  Whether they are in a grid on my altar or in my pocket, they harness beneficial moon energy.

First, there is SELENITE (also known as satin spar).  

It's named after the Selene, Greek Goddess of the Moon.  It's iridescent sheen looks like crystalized moonlight itself.  Selenite is used for deep cleansing and it fills you with Light, raises your vibrational frequency, harnesses Goddess energies and allows us to communicate with our higher selves most easily.  

Second on the list is MOONSTONE.

It's no surprise that moonstone is excellent to work with during new and full moons. (I prefer black moonstone for new moons.)  It is a lunar energy stone that anchors moon energy, balances emotions, stimulates dreaming, and invites the Divine Feminine to bathe you in her cleansing energies and protection.  This is a high-powered stone so take your time in finding just the right piece that vibrates with your particular energy.

Third is LABRADORITE

As we've written before, labradorite is a mysterious stone, aiding us to tap into the magick of the full moon.  If you have any rituals planned, labradorite is a must.  Like selenite and moonstone, labradorite has that iridescent quality, filled with lunar energy.  Remember that labradorite is very protective as well, so if you need additional grounding when working with full moon energy, make this a g0-to stone.

Next, I recommend OPAL

The moon has vibrational connections to the element of water, controlling our emotional nature and opal does as well.  Opal aligns our higher self to the moon and allows us to use Her energies.  It enhances the water energies so it's about purification and cleansing (remember Selenite?).  Like labradorite, opals display a range of colours which stimulate our brow chakra and lead our imagination on journeys led by full moon energies.  Allow yourself go use opal to connect with the mysterious energies of the full moon and you'll be amply rewarded.

And finally, have a CLEAR QUARTZ CRYSTAL on hand.

Clear quartz amplifies the energies of all its surroundings and centralizes and coordinates the vibrations of all other stones.  If you make a grid with the above stones, a clear quartz crystal would be an excellent center stone.  This is your power stone.  Use it wisely.

The new moon is all about cleansing, concentrating and putting manifestation magick to work.  In the darkness of the new moon, energies gather where anything is possible.  Cleanse your space and reflect on that for which you are grateful, allow your energies to flow with the possibilities the new moon has in store.  You are the creator.  Within the darkness all is possible.  Go within, release all that has accumulated since the last new moon, and identify that which you wish to manifest during the coming moon cycle.  

SMOKEY QUARTZ will assist you in releasing pent up negative energies, accumulated or generated, and give you a clear mind when identifying that which you can release and that which you wish to manifest.

BLACK OBSIDIAN allows you to enter the darkness of your shadow self.  It can assist you in identifying that which you can let go to facilitate the manifestation of that which you wish to manifest.   Always use black obsidian with caution.  If you have depressive tendencies, black obsidian may draw you deeper into depression.

An easier, gentler stone to use may be BLACK MOONSTONE which is already connected with lunar energies and is an emotional-body stone.  It will assist you in releasing any emotions or attachments which have not served you well and allow you to let go and move forward.

CITRINE with its happy yellow colour is the go-to manifestation crystal.  It's warm colour stimulates the solar plexus chakra, the seat of  manifestation.  Once you feel clear, centered and are fully concentrating on that which you wish to manifest, gaze into the citrine, programming it with your intentions for the new moon cycle.  Allow images in your mind and words in your heart to transfer into the citrine crystal, then allow the crystal to broadcast your intentions to the Universe.

To enhance the energies of all stones and crystals being used during new moon rituals, always have a CLEAR QUARTZ CRYSTAL among your stones.  Clear quartz amplifies the energies of all other stones and crystals and gathers and focuses their energies.  A single clear quartz point would be a great center for a grid using the above stones.

                        DRAGONS

Dragons have widely been dismissed as legend, but we all know that behind legend is a bit of truth.  Seers and psychics have said that dragons, griffins, unicorns and other supposed mythical animals have ascended to the fourth dimension.  Once in a while, the dimensions merge and we glimpse a dragon in dreamstate or see something in the night.  The Merlin of Britain was an adept at dragon magick.  The Chinese have several kinds of dragons apparent in daily life.  In the Far East, dragons are not myth but reality.  Let's explore that a little bit more and suspend some of our Western bias. 

Dragon symbolism plays heavily in the Celtic culture of England, Scotland and Wales.  It is associated with all four elements and cardinal directions.  To the Druids, Dragons represented vitality, the psychic self, ancient wisdom and the power of creation itself.  Stories of dragons protecting the secret and sacred entryways to other realms are common in Celtic writings and Druid folklore.  

It is no surprise to discover a Red Dragon on the flag of Wales. The motto roughly translates as ‘the Red Dragon leads us’. Unlike many European tales, Dragons have strong benevolent tendencies, only harming when evil rears its ugly head.  

Throughout Celtic realms what we call Ley Lines are called Dragon Lines. This ties Dragon Spirit to Geomancy and the forces that connect all things on the Earth together. Stonehenge is thought to have been the ancient resting ground for travelling Dragons. Gives the phrase, “ley of the land” whole new meaning, doesn’t it? 

The Anglo Saxon word for Dragon means “clear seer”. This implies that the Celts considered the Dragons as prophets and true seers with great wisdom. In fact, seeing a Dragon was regarded as a great omen of good health and plentiful harvest. Even into modern times the Dragon is respected akin to the Gods as a protector of Mother Earth.  Perhaps this is why the legends say that dragons are notorious for hoarding treasure.  Are they  hoarding or are they protecting from human greed?

Dragons can be amazing protectors, guides and guardians.  The dragon is a powerful spiritual ally.  They have existed throughout all cultures (remember the Aztec god Quetzelcoatl?) and these powerful creatures can appear to you as spirit guides, offering wisdom, guidance and support.  A dragon ally means you're spiritual journey is about to embark into new territory.  The dragon represents a new chapter in your ascension.

If you wish to see a dragon or work with dragons, always keep in mind your own protection.  Summon a circle, call the elements or meditate on a circle of white flaming light surrounding you.

To attract a dragon to you, create a gemstone bowl.  It appears that dragons prefer natural stones to polished as the natural stones retain more earth energies.   In this they are very  much like the Fey Folk.  

Place the dragon bowl in a special spot.  You may even place the stones in a circle and forget about the bowl.  Appropriate stones are set in your special place to help attract and hold the attention of the dragon upon which you call.  Since circles of stones tend to concentrate and amplify energy raised within their boundaries, using stones set around a candle will intensify the magickal energies used for manifestation.

Dragons are plentiful and there are dragons for each element.  If you wish to attract a water dragon, use water-related stones (how about a pearl?) and crystals and even a bowl of fresh water to scry in. If an earth dragon is more your style, concentrate on the earth stones of green, brown and black (try a moss agate, brown jasper combination).  Fire dragons prefer stones associated with the south, so rubies or fire agates are great.  If you are lucky enough to have a crystal with an internal fracture that resembles a dragon, use this as a centerpiece as its vibrations are already attuned to those of the dragons.

Some people are naturally inclined to attract dragons.  We all have our talents and gifts to which other energy forms are attracted.  However, you can attract a beneficial dragon ally for protection or spiritual growth.  It is up to you.  Dragons, akin to the Fey, are keen on knowing the state of your heart so be in the right frame of mind when you project the desire to contact and make friends with a dragon ally.  While meditating send out a thoughtform and ask the Universe to send you a dragon friend.  The dragons of India are said to very much enjoy spontaneity and music.  Perhaps joyfully improvise a dance to entice a dragon into your world.  And of course, you can simply ask or state your intention: that you walk the path of dragons with love and trust and friendship and invite a dragon friend into your life and home.

Dragons come in all shapes and sizes. Let go of preconceptions of what a dragon is and what it is not.  Allow the dragons of the fourth dimension to hear your call or feel your energies.  Soon you may be visited by  a dragon ally in your dreamstate.  Continue to request a dragon ally and eventually you will be rewarded with a wonderful friendship.

Please note that crystals called "dragon eggs" are polished septarian nodules and do nothing to attract dragons or embody dragon energy.

     THE ETHICS OF USING CRYSTALS

One thing I get asked quite often is 'is using crystals evil?'  This is an odd question to me as a Wiccan since I do not believe in the concept of "evil." So for me I translate this question into 'is using crystals ethical?' 

The answer is a resounding YES.  Crystals and stones were formed hundreds of million years ago and have been used for direct energy and vibrational healing for millennia.  It is as if each piece of smokey quartz on this planet is connected to the Smokey Quartz Universal Consciousness and each piece of aventurine is connected to the Aventurine Universal Consciousness.  This goes for any stone or crystal.  When we use a crystal or stone, we are tapping into the Universal Consciousness that has programmed the piece to do a specific job.

Crystals and stones are always used as adjunct therapies and are never meant to be a replacement for proper medical diagnosis, treatment and care.  

We often use stones and crystals without thinking.  That is, if we feel an energy blockage, or your friendly crystal therapist feels an energy blockage, you would use the crystal and stone appropriate to the chakra to break up this blockage.  This is using crystals and stones in an ethical way.  There is an intent added to the energy of the crystal or stone and it is directed toward the benefit of the person involved.  

Crystal therapy takes years of study and practice.  Some people are gifted and others need a lot of practice.  What is crucial is the intent of the crystal therapist; or your intent on why you are using the crystals and stones.  Be very clear on this.  

For instance, you can always use crystals and stones to assist in tarot readings.  While doing a tarot reading have a large clear quartz crystal so that you are able to focus on the task at hand and the story the cards tell is clarified.  

You can also use crystals in magickal workings.  In new moon or full moon rituals, use many crystals and stones appropriate to your intent on these special days.

And there it is again...intent.  With a clear mind and clear heart, examine your intent when using your crystals and stones.  Ask yourself 'will this affect others? how will this affect others? am I violating someone's free will?'  Depending on your answers, you may need to adjust your mindset or put aside the project totally.  If you find yourself in a grey area, stop, walk away and clear your mind.

Can crystals and stones be used for "bad" purposes?  The answer is NO.  Remember that each crystal and stone has a job to do and it is our responsibility to examine our intent when using them.   If I have a nasty intent and try to use a crystal to further that, the effects of the crystal's negative workings will return to me threefold.  But most critical of all, crystals and stones have a inborn safety mechanism.  Being born of the Mother, they can carry only Divine Light Energy and simply cannot be used for negative purposes; they override the maleficent directon of the user.  They would break or chip if used with nefarious intent: they literally sacrifice themselves rather than broadcast one's hurtful, harmful  frequencies.  

Don't look to crystals and stones to "do" anything negative for you.  They simply will not.  Each carries only Divine White Light energy frequencies and can do nothing else, as much as an ill-intended person may try to force it.

        TUNING IN & PROGRAMMING

            YOUR CRYSTAL

Hi everyone, I've had a request to write about tuning in to your crystals and how to program them.  First, let's be clear.  Each crystal was born with a certain job to do and it will always do that job.  Rose quartz will always accelerate self-love; you cannot program it to do anything differently and smokey quartz will always neutralize negative energy.  That being said, however, you can indeed program two specific crystals; a clear quartz Channel Crystal and a clear quartz Transmitter Crystal.

CHANNEL CRYSTAL

A Channel Crystal is a single crystal that has a natural seven-sided face with a three-side face behind it.

These crystals are the easiest to tune into and program.  The seven-sided face represents the seven attributes of human consciousness; love, knowledge, joy, freedom, peace, manifestation and unity.  The three-side face directly opposite symbolizes the integration of mind, body and spriity as they connect with and strengthen the seven-sided face.  A Channeling Crystal helps you attain connection to the ultimate source of knowledge, allowing you to better channel information from the Universe.  These master crystals are great to use if you need an answer to a specific question.

TRANSMITTER CRYSTAL

The second easiest crystal to program is a Transmitter Crystal.  You can recognize a transmitter easily since it is a 7-3-7.  That is, there is a three-side face between two seven-sided faces.  These represent personal power held in balance by the energy of perfect order.  On their own, they are great tools for clarifying, simplifying and refining your ability to communicate with just about anything on any level.  They connect the third dimension directly to higher dimensions of existence.  As the name implies, they transmit energy to and from the Universe itself.

What is programming?  How do I do it?  Why would I want to?

Programming either of these master crystals is sending your thoughtforms into the crystal so it can broadcast the energy out into the universe on you behalf.  For instance, perhaps you need more insight into a complex personal problem.  A Channel Crystal would be chosen so that you can send the question to the Universal energies and receive a direct answer.  Or, perhaps you are in need of employment.  Then, you could choose a Transmitter Crystal, program it, and allow it to broadcast that energy far and wide.  

Channel and Transmitter crystals come in all members of the quartz family: amethyst, ametrine, citrine, clear, rose and smokey quartz.  For purposes of programming, choose clear quartz.  It's clarity will assist your thoughtforms are clear and precise and will clearly be broadcast to the Universe.  

Now, think very carefully about what you want or need assistance with.  It may be simple or it may be complex.  It the situation is complicated, perhaps break it down to its core question or need.  If you need an answer right away, choose a Channel Crystal to work with but if you need energy to be sustained, try using a Transmitter Crystal.  Be very clear on your wants, needs and desires.  The clearer you are, the clearer the transmission and the faster the manifestation you seek.  Remember the saying 'garbage in, garbage out?'  The Universal energies can't guess at what you are doing, you must be precise.

Visualize if you can that which you wish to clarify or manifest.  Feel it.  Remember that emotions exist on the fourth dimension and they have their own energy.  You can't see them, but they are powerful.  You can't see battery energy and yet when the flashlight is on, you know it's being powered by that battery.  The same with thoughtforms.  The clearer you are, the higher the vibrational rate of energy on the fourth dimension.

With a Channel Crystal, bring the seven-side face to your brow chakra.  Allow the thoughtform to leave your energy system and be absorbed by the crystal.  Let go, the crystal now has your thoughtform programmed into it.  With a Transmitter Crystal, bring the three-sided face to your brow chakra and send your thoughtform energy into the crystal.  Let go and know the frequency is being held by the crystal.  

Another way to program is to meditate on the issues above and visually stare at the crystal until you feel it is time to release the thoughtform from your energy system into that of the crystal.  Use, whichever method makes the most sense to you.  

When you 'let go' of the thoughtform, the vibrational energy built up within you transfers to the vibrational field of the crystal.  You no longer need to keep thinking of the issue since the crystal has been programmed with your intent.  Allow it to be.  Trust in energies you cannot see and frequencies you cannot hear.

If you feel intuitively that your Channel Crystal wants to 'speak' with you, be still and silent and hold the seven-sided face to your brow chakra.  Allow any feelings or images to be absorbed from the crystal.  Was your question answered?  Did you receive the information you needed?   If not, allow the Channel Crystal to continue working.  With Transmitter Crystals, your intent is continuously sent out into the Universe so it's not as easy to know when to halt the process.  If you programmed the Transmitter with a specific task and it has manifest, then the process is complete.  But if the Transmitter is still broadcasting, allow it to do so until your thoughtform has manifest on the third dimension or you receive the information you need to move on. 

Remember friends, clear quartz Channel Crystals or Transmitter Crystals are the easiest crystals to program and you must be clear on your intent and thoughtforms for the fourth-dimensional energies to be accurately received by the crystal and the Universe.  When the programming has been completed, be absolutely certain to cleanse and clear the crystal to use in the future.  If not cleared, the crystals will continue running the thoughtform program and we don't want that.  There is a beginning, a middle and be certain there is a definite end of the programming process.
